last night at charly brown

01Jul05
Of course, once we find the great local spot to play darts and drink beer, it has to close. This shot is from the final evening’s party at Charly Brown, Toyonaka. After 25 years, Charly Brown is closing down. We’d just started making friends with the Charly Brown crew too — Iku and Eiko (in the photograph) and one of the headwaiters whose name I don’t know because his nametag said, inexplicably, “FOOD” in large capital letters. He had a nice singing voice too. One of the specifying features of CB was that you could order drinks and request a song. Our last song had the waitstaff singing “Daisuki, daisuki” (“I love you,” basically) with vocals, guitar, and two drink shakers mixing drinks for the rhythm section. Charly Brown — why did you leave us?
