the medusiad
From a series of portraits taken on Swan’s Island of the artist Barbara Andrus. In these photos Barbara’s hair was supposed to end up looking something like Medusa’s snaky locks. In a way I think these portraits are a bit unsuccessful because Barbara’s hair actually looked so much more snaky and magnificent in real life than it turned out in these photos. The original plan was to have Barbara lie in the surf and have her hair flow with the ocean currents, but it was a very windy day and the water was rough, so we resorted to this series of shots among the rocks and tide pools. All shots were taken with either a Voigtlander Bessa-L (with 15mm Heliar lens), a Voigtlander Bessa-T (with 50mm Nokton lens), or the Fujifilm GF670 (branded as the Voigtlander Bessa-III in the US).

these are cool anyway! But do the shoot again with her normal hair and the ocean and see what happens
Next time I’m on Swan’s Island with Barbara, I’ll make sure to insist that we redo the shoot! When that will be, I’m not really sure . . .
In that case, it might be difficult! Medusa can be fun in any incarnation though…
